    Women in music are constantly facing expectations and critiques that are forcing them to keep reinventing their image, and their approach to music, as well as turning to improving their artistic vision to a broader extent than most of the men in the music industry. Seriously, is there any male artist who has had to evolve and redefine his artistic identity more than Taylor Swift or Beyoncé in the last two decades? 

    Despite remaining underrepresented at award shows; for instance, only about %22.7 of the Grammy nominees were female this year, the iconic women in music industry still dominate all the charts and award shows. The 25-year-old singer of 6 studio albums went there and proved herself with her latest project, Short n’ Sweet album. Pop singer Carpenter is a true testament that hard work pays off, no matter how long it takes. She took her talent, vision, and undeniable pop star energy to the next level on Sabrina Carpenter new album Short n’ Sweet, on which she worked with Jack Antonoff for the first time. This is apparently a duo that works well as we can clearly see on Please Please Please. Now, let’s delve into how previous Disney Channel actress Sabrina Carpenter rose to pop stardom.

    She Really is Short n’ Sweet: Sabrina Carpenter

    Short n’ Sweet, Carpenter’s first number-one album was released on August 23, 2024. Being her sixth studio album, Short n’ Sweet really says hi to different genres including pop, bubblegum, folk, country, and R&B. She worked with producers Julian Bunetta, John Ryan, Ian Kirkpatrick, and Taylor Swift’s longtime collaborator, Jack Antonoff. The album is composed of a bold, honest, and funny perspective and enjoyable, dreamy melodies. 

    The confident lyrics on the album were backed by music videos such as Taste, starring Jenna Ortega, who’s always associated with Camila Cabello for her looks. Casting Jenna Ortega was a smart and funny move for Carpenter because she was previously in a love triangle with Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello and she reflects her side of the story on several tracks on Short n’ Sweet. 

    Sabrina calls Short n’ Sweet her second big girl album; not to discredit her four other studio albums but “emails I can’t send” and “Short n’ Sweet” mirror who Sabrina is, because, well, she is growing up in front of our eyes. 

    The title comes both from Sabrina’s short romantic affairs and stands exactly for herself, she really is short and sweet. The album was teased by the release of Espresso & Please Please Please, both of which became hits; Please Please Please reached number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, marking Sabrina’s first number-one hit on the chart. Espresso peaked at number 3, basically sabotaged by Carpenter herself, since Please Please Please was topping the charts. Despite not being number one on the Billboard Hot 100, Espresso was all we heard the whole summer and it’s still charting in the top 20. The third single Taste, with its humorous music video, peaked at number 2. Sabrina Carpenter now has 4 top 10 hits including Espresso, Please Please Please, Taste, and Bed Chem.

    After previously opening for Taylor Swift Eras Tour, Sabrina Carpenter supported her brand new album with Short n’ Sweet Tour, which was her first arena tour. 

    Sabrina Carpenter is Now a Two-time Grammy Winner

    With bold, relatable, and funny lyrics, Short n’ Sweet was praised by many critics and had good reviews. Sabrina also received her first Grammy nomination with this album.     Kendrick Lamar released his latest album GNX at the end of last year, 2024 (first time calling it last year, wow). Kendrick Lamar new album GNX includes 12 tracks and lasts around 44 minutes. The album unsurprisingly has 2 collaborations with SZA, both of which add the magical chemistry we are accustomed to as a Kendrick Lamar discography classic.

    Kendrick also worked with Jack Antonoff on this album, which I found surprising. Jack Antonoff is a Grammy-winning producer working famously with Taylor Swift, Sabrina Carpenter, and Lana Del Rey. Kendrick Lamar worked with Jack Antonoff on several great tracks from GNX including “wacced out murals“, “squabble up“, “man at the garden“, “reincarnated“, and both of the SZA and Kendrick Lamar collaborations; “luther” and “gloria“. They basically worked together on all of my favorite songs from the new Kendrick Lamar album. For me, their styles match and I love hearing high-quality lyrics together with emotionally qualified production. The experience must have been revolutionary for Jack Antonoff as well since he stepped up his game, got out of his comfort zone, and worked so well and elegantly with Kendrick Lamar on GNX tracks. It would be great to hear them more, dare I wish for a Kendrick Lamar and Lana Del Rey collaboration produced by Jack Antonoff? Dear 2025, come bearing miracles.
